The next phase of construction to install a permanent MRI at Erie Shores Healthcare starts on Wednesday.
A crane will lift the 7,000 kg magnet into the new MRI suite.
The hospital released a timeline for Wednesday's operations but cautions it's fluid and can change without notice.
The magnet transport truck arrives at 9 a.m. Over the next hour, workers will unload the needed accessories, and then the magnet will be hoisted and placed into position within the MRI room.
Communications staff at Erie Shores Healthcare plan to record the event and post videos of it on their social media.
CEO Kristin Kennedy recently announced the hospital is halfway to its fundraising goal to pay for the MRI. It's raised $2.5-million so far.
Erie Shores Healthcare hopes to have the new MRI operational in December.
Over 1,000 scans have been taken using the temporary MRI, which arrived at the hospital in May.
