The Town of LaSalle is moving forward with improvements to the Matchett Road and Sprucewood Avenue intersection.
An all-way stop currently controls the busy intersection on the border of the City of Windsor and the Town of LaSalle.
Over a decade ago, there was a proposal to develop the former Windsor raceway site near the intersection and as part of that proposal the developer agreed to install a roundabout and pedestrian crossings at the intersection. The development never moved forward.
"I think our community has been extremely vocal about their frustration with that intersection. I think that we've heard that they want to see something sooner than later and if we keep waiting for that area to be developed we're easily five, 10 15, 20 years the future. We've already waiting this long it doesn't make sense for us to keep doing this. The situation is only going to get worse as the Town of LaSalle continues to grow," said Mayor Crystal Meloche.
Improvements would include a new signal and protected left turn lanes on Matchett along with sidewalk improvements. The project will also include the addition of turning lanes on Matchett Road at Morton Drive.
The project cost is an estimated $1,450,000 and will come from the town's roads reserve.
