Strike at Clear Medical Imaging looms

The bargaining team at Unifor Local 2458 and management at Clear Medical Imaging are at the bargaining table, hoping to reach a tentative collective agreement by 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

If not, workers at the diagnostic medical imaging service will walk off the job at midnight, possibly delaying thousands of appointments.

The union represents 130 workers at seven locations across Windsor-Essex.

At a recent membership meeting, the workers voted over 90 per cent in favour of a strike to support their contract demands.

Ken Durocher, the president of Unifor Local 2458, told WindsorNewsToday.ca that progress has been slow, but he's still optimistic a deal will be in hand by the strike deadline.

He said talks hit a snag but was reluctant to describe what's holding up negotiations, saying he didn't want to jeopardize their progress.

"We're trying to get a deal done," said Durocher. "That's our commitment to the public."

The contract, once ratified, will be the membership's first.

"This membership asked to join the union nine months ago, and we've been working that long just to try and get a deal," Durocher added. "We got back to the table about a month ago, and they've been at it for almost four weeks straight."

Clear Medical Imaging has four locations in Windsor, along with one in LaSalle, Essex, and Tecumseh.
