Two youths arrested in auto theft and mischief

Windsor police have arrested two young people following a series of incidents over the weekend.

Officers were first called to Rosedale Avenue near Donnelly Street at around 5 a.m. on Sunday, after getting a mischief complaint. They discovered that people in a black pickup truck had broken windows of the house and shouted racial slurs.

While responding to the call, police spotted the pickup at Wyandotte Street West and Indian Road. The vehicle sped off once the officers activated the cruiser's lights. A licence plate check showed the pickup was stolen from an east-end location.

The truck was found on Erie Street West near Ouellette Avenue, but the occupants fled again after striking the police cruiser.

Police found the truck again a short time later, abandoned on Wells Street near Brock. Officers found two suspects trying to run and arrested them after they were discovered hiding in bushes.

The two 14-year-olds are each charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, mischief over $5,000, and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

One of the suspects, who can't be named under the Ontario Youth Criminal Justice Act, is also charged with failure to comply with a release order.

The charges have not been proven in court.
