A mild and wet end to 2024

Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected as 2024 comes to an end.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Barbara Lapido said a Texas low will bring warmer temperatures, followed by a moisture laden system from the Gulf.

"So we are having right now a pattern that is bringing southerly winds from the United States, so all that warm and humid air is moving north and reaching Canada," said Lapido. "This pattern is going to remain here for a couple of days and then on Sunday the temperature is going to slowly decrease day by day, back to seasonal temperatures by Wednesday night, Thursday morning."

Lapido said on Sunday, the system from the Gulf will dump between 15 to 25 millimetres of rain on the region. In Windsor, up to 40 millimetres is possible.

Environment Canada is calling for a high of 12 C on Saturday in Sarnia, and 9 C on Sunday.

"Normally, seasonal temperatures the max is around 0 C or -1 C, so a max of 12 C is well above seasonal, definitely," said Lapido.

Lapido said despite the above normal temperatures expected, it's unlikely we'll set new record highs.

The current record high for December 28 in Sarnia is 15.5 C set in 1982, and for December 29 the record is 15.2 C set in 1984.
