As 2024 prepares to pass into history, there will be some changes in how businesses and institutions conduct business on Tuesday and Wednesday.
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day fall this time on those two days, but only New Year's Day is a federal holiday.
All federal, provincial, and municipal offices will be closed on Wednesday, with some municipalities closing their offices through the winter holidays. Please contact your municipality for more information.
There will be no Canada Post delivery on Wednesday.
Most Service Ontario branches are open until 5 p.m. New Year's Eve and are closed New Year's Day. Some transactions can be performed online.
The four publicly-funded school boards serving Windsor-Essex are on their winter holiday break, with classes resuming on Monday, January 6, 2025. St. Clair College and the University of Windsor will also be closed.
Most Beer Store locations will be open New Year's Eve until 6 p.m., with all stores closed New Year's Day.
At the LCBO, most outlets will close on New Year's Eve at 6 p.m., and remain closed on Wednesday.
Devonshire Mall in Windsor is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve. Tecumseh Mall is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, as well as Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle.
All three malls are closed on New Year's Day.
At the Windsor Public Library, all branches are open till 5 p.m. on Tuesday, and closed on Wednesday.
All Essex County Library branches are closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
The 311 Call Centre is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and closed Wednesday. The 211 call centre will operate 24/7 as usual.
There will be no residential garbage, recycling, or yard waste pickup in the City of Windsor on New Year's Day. Those will be delayed one day. Night commercial and weekly recycling collections are not affected.
There will be a special yard waste and Christmas tree pickup in Windsor during the week of January 13, 2025.
The City's public drop-off and household chemical waste depot on Central Avenue will be closed on Wednesday.
Community centres in Windsor will be closed on New Year's Day.
All of the city's rinks and arenas will close at 2 p.m. on New Year's Eve, and reopen for rentals on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
At the WFCU Centre, the indoor pool will close at 3 p.m. on New Year's Eve and stay closed on New Year's Day. The Windsor Spitfires will host the Flint Firebirds in their traditional New Year's Eve matinee, with a 2:05 p.m. puck drop.
The Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre will be open with adjusted hours through Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Adventure Bay Family Water Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the winter holiday break, except for New Year's Day when it is closed.
The Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H4) at Windsor Water World will be open every day from 8 a.m. to midnight.
There will be no metered parking enforcement in Windsor on Wednesday, and all paid lots and garages will operate as usual. All parking enforcement payment offices will be closed on New Year's Day.
Transit Windsor will run on Sunday-holiday schedules on Tuesday and Wednesday. Check the website for specific information. The tunnel bus to Detroit will not run on New Year's Day.
The Transit Windsor customer care centre at 300 Chatham Street West will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, and be closed on Wednesday.
Bright Lights Windsor in Jackson Park is open every evening through Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The W.E. Made It holiday market will run on Friday and Saturday night.
