LaSalle's new fire station set to open

A new fire station is opening in the Town of LaSalle.

The building, located on Front Road, is the community’s second firehouse. The plan is to build a third station on Laurier Parkway.

Firefighters will start their first shift on Sunday.

The new station means 87 per cent of LaSalle’s urban area will receive help from the fire department within four minutes from calling. This is up from the provincial average of 72 per cent.

“Opening this second fire station underscores our dedication to community safety,” said Mayor Crystal Meloche. “Council is committed to equipping our firefighters with the necessary resources to protect our residents effectively.”

According to Fire Chief Ed Thiessen, the new station is equipped with modern amenities and advanced equipment.

“This new fire hall will provide our team with the tools needed to address the challenges of today and tomorrow. It is designed to enhance our response times, reduce risks, and ensure the safety of our firefighters,” he added.

An open house is being planned for later this spring.
