A network of Senior Active Living Centres (SALC) across Ontario will include one in the Town of LaSalle this year.
The inclusion of LaSalle was announced on Friday by Essex MPP Anthony Leardi.
"LaSalle Senior Active Living will be a great addition for our seniors," said Leardi. "It will offer seniors from the entire community the opportunity to stay fit, active, healthy, and socially connected through various activities."
LaSalle Mayor Crystal Meloche said the new SALC will provide local seniors with opportunities they may not otherwise have access to.
"We sincerely thank the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility for supporting our services to expand activities for seniors in LaSalle," said Meloche. "This aligns with our goal to provide more opportunities for seniors to stay connected and improve their overall well-being."
The LaSalle SALC is one of 100 new centres opening in 2025 across Ontario.
SALCs offer seniors and older adults learning opportunities such as financial management, elder abuse prevention, and a variety of recreational and social activities that include fitness, healthy lifestyle, and wellness classes.
According to the provincial government's official website, SALCs are operational in Windsor, Amherstburg, Essex, Kingsville, Lakeshore, Leamington, Tecumseh, and Tilbury.
