Windsor police advise social media posts claiming there's a serial killer in Windsor are false

The Windsor Police Service is asking residents to be wary of sharing false crimes on social media.

Several social media posts have been shared this week warning of "serial killers" or other criminals that are active in Windsor. These posts include mugshots of people who have not committed crimes in Windsor.

"The information that is being shared is something that has been made up and is going actually quite viral on social media," said Constable Bianca Jackson. "We want to put out a message to the community that unless it's coming from a verified source like our Windsor Police Service website, our social media platforms, or even some of our neighbouring policing like OPP or LaSalle Police, if it's coming from a valid source you may share that information but we don't want people sharing misinformation."

Constable Jackson said there is concern that the posts will cause undue stress for people in the community.

"We don't want people to be concerned unless there is a reason to be concerned and at this time those posts that are going around are inaccurate," said Jackson.
