The City of Windsor is reminding drivers if they haven't paid their parking and traffic fines, they won't be able to renew their driver's license or license plate.
It said many drivers may not realize their plate and license renewals are still subject to the payment of outstanding fines.
Drivers caught with an expired plate may also have to pay a $160 fine.
"License plate renewals may no longer require a fee, but payment of fines and penalties remains mandatory," said Commissioner of Infrastructure Services David Simpson. "Unpaid parking tickets, red light camera violations, and other outstanding ticket fines can lead to delays, inconvenience, and potential legal consequences. These debts never expire."
The city's Parking Enforcement Department will soon send a letter to drivers with outstanding fines.
If you're not sure how to check if you have any unpaid tickets, you can visit ServiceOntario.
If you have an outstanding fine that is not past due, you can pay online at www.paytickets.ca, visit the Parking Enforcement Office or a City of Windsor Customer Care Centre.
Fines can also be paid through the mail or over the phone by calling 519-255-6298.
Tickets that are beyond their due date can be paid at ServiceOntario.
