Erie Shores Healthcare needs new cardiac monitors, and the Erie Shores Health Foundation is launching a new campaign to pay for them.
It's called the Heart-to-Heart campaign, and it launched on Friday.
People are encouraged to buy a heart with a personalized message as a gift or in memory of a loved one.
Those will be displayed on the foundation's virtual or physical heart wall.
Both the clinical team and patients will benefit from the new cardiac monitors. They are more advanced than the ones the hospital is using currently and include mobile monitoring capabilities. Integrated patient information will enable clinicians to intervene quickly.
Karl Broll, a patient and community healthcare advocate, has witnessed the advance in the technology over the past 30 years.
"In my experience, these monitors have provided my network of physicians and nurses with the essential information they need to determine the next steps in my care," he said.
"This campaign is a special way for our community to join together while continuing to advance care at our hospital," said ESHF Executive Director Penny Bellhouse. "Show your love and compassion this month -- even if the heart is for yourself."
There is no minimum donation, and virtual hearts are available online, while physical hearts for the wall in the Lemington Medical Village building are at the Erie Shores Health Foundation office.
