Point Pelee Observation Tower reopening

After two-and-a-half years, Parks Canada has reopened the observation tower at the base of Point Pelee.

It was closed to the public in May 2022 after a routine inspection revealed a safety issue with the Tip Tower guard rail system.

The following year, a third-party engineer confirmed while the tower was structurally sound, the guard rail needed to be replaced. Parks Canada hired Heritage Restoration Inc. to make the repairs, and work started off-site in May 2023.

Work at the site started last September and finally wrapped up last week. Over the coming weeks, final updates to the tower will be installed.

The tower has 144 steps to the top and provides a 360-degree view of the park, Point Pelee, and Lake Erie.
