The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel will be closed Sunday, February 23 for an annual emergency response exercise.
Between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. emergency response partners Windsor Fire and Rescue, Windsor EMS, Windsor Police and the Canadian Border Service Agency will work with Detroit Police, US Customs and Border Protection, Detroit Fire and Homeland Security to respond to a fabricated scenario.
“The planned exercise is a critical part of the Tunnel’s emergency response procedures”, said Tal Czudner, CEO of Windsor Detroit Borderlink Limited, which operates the Canadian side of the Tunnel. “In the unlikely event that an emergency occurs, both sides of the border will be prepared to handle the situation safely and efficiently.”
The tunnel is expected to resume normal operations after the completion of the exercise at 10 a.m.
