A cold weather warning has been issued for the region as temperatures dip to -15 Celcius on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit warns exposure to cold weather can increase the risk of cold-related injuries, including hypothermia and frostbite. Older adults, infants, young children, people who work outdoors and people with pre-existing conditions are especially at risk.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mehdi Aloosh recommends dressing warmly, drinking warm fluids and avoiding alcohol. People should seek shelter when the wind chill is significant and limit time spent outside.
Signs of hypothermia include shivering, confusion, and uncoordinated movements. Call 911 immediately if you suspect someone may have hypothermia.
