After six years, the City of Windsor is considering terminating its contract to provide policing for residents in Amherstburg.
Amherstburg Mayor Michael Prue confirmed it on Wednesday morning.
Prue says he hasn't been approached directly, but the Chief Administrative Officers in both municipalities have been talking after rumours started circulating a month ago.
Amherstburg shut down its municipal police service in 2019 after signing the contract with Windsor.
He said he can't say much about the development, but his council plans to meet behind closed doors on Monday to discuss it.
"No. No. I can't really say much, but following the meeting on Monday night, there will be things to say," he said.
Amherstburg just renewed the contract after the last municipal election.
Under the terms of the original contract either municipality can signal it plans to terminate the agreement with 18 months' notice. It must be renewed every five years.
Prue said the town has other options but didn't say what is on the table.
