When the Downtown Mission hosted its largest fundraiser of the year, it set a goal of $110,000.
It surpassed the goal last Saturday night, raising $120,274 to support its services.
The event brought together 345 walkers, 57 teams, and 75 volunteers to boost support for those facing homelessness, hunger, and hardship.
About 250 people participated in last year's event in Windsor, while another 100 walked in Essex County.
"The overwhelming support from our community reaffirms Windsor's commitment to standing with those in need," said Executive Director Rukshini Ponniah-Goulin. "Every donation, every step taken, and every volunteer's effort contributed to making this event a tremendous success."
Despite the higher-than-expected total, the Downtown Mission says the need remains urgent.
Each night, the Downtown Mission shelters 130 people seeking warmth, food, and refuge, but demand for those services continues to grow.
"As demand for our programs and services continues to rise, meeting that need without increased financial and volunteer support will be a challenge," said Ponniah-Goulin. "Seventy per cent of our annual budget of $4.5-million is generated from community donations, and every contribution makes a significant impact."
