Dowie re-elected in Windsor-Tecumseh

Andrew Dowie is re-elected in Windsor-Tecumseh.

The PC Party candidate will return to office for a second mandate.

Unofficial results from Elections Ontario show Progressive Conservative Andrew Dowie winning the night with 21,285 votes or 48 per cent of the total vote.

His closest competitor, the NDP's Gemma Grey-Hall, won 13,721 votes, while Liberal Connor Logan netted 6,336. Roxanne Tellier ran for the Green Party and ended the night with 830 votes. There were 719 votes for Ontario Party candidate Steven Gifford, 707 for Sophia Sevo of the New Blue Party, and Communist Party candidate Kyle Ford won 606.

Dowie, a former engineer with the City of Windsor and Tecumseh Town Councillor, was first elected in 2022. It was the first time the riding voted Conservative blue in 80 years.

Addressing supporters Thursday night at the Bourbon Tap and Grill in Tecumseh, Dowie thanked his volunteers and vowed to continue taking a methodical approach to solving Windsor-Tecumseh's issues.

"There's nothing I want to do more as an engineer than to solve problems and fix things," said Dowie. "The best opportunity for me to do that is to engage with you."

Speaking to reporters after making his victory remarks, Dowie said he was ready to get back to work.

"The last couple of years, I've been working away, learning the ropes, learning how Queens Park works, and now I'll be in overdrive and doing an even better job in bringing investment here and make sure Windsor is kept on the map."

Dowie said work on the new Windsor-Essex acute care hospital would be his top priority in his next mandate, followed by improving area infrastructure to support Windsor's electric vehicle battery plant, NextStar.

Elections Ontario reported voter turnout in Windsor-Tecumseh was 45.25 per cent.
