A 29-year-old is facing charges after allegedly choking a store employee to steal cigarettes.

Windsor police say they responded to a robbery at a business on Wyandotte Street East near Marentette Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Monday. Investigators learned that a man entered the store, forced his way across the counter, and choked an employee while demanding cigarettes.

After a brief struggle, the suspect stole the cigarettes and left the store.

The employee had non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers reviewed the store's surveillance video and identified a suspect.

Just before 11 p.m. the suspect was arrested in the area of Park Street and Pelissier Street. He was charged with robbery.
