Sweeter than ever: First Taste of Spring Maple Syrup Festival returns

The annual First Taste of Spring Maple Syrup Festival is back at John R. Park Homestead.

This weekend and next, those who go will be treated to outdoor fun and unique experiences in a tradition that celebrates our natural and cultural heritage.

"Each weekend is distinctly themed," said Homestead Curator Kris Ives. "As an early settler site, 1850s maple-making will be the focus of the John R. Park Homestead's activities."

Ives said activities include blacksmithing demonstrations, pioneer toys and games, and the popular maple taffy in the snow.

There's also the Lumber Games Costume competition, boast-worthy beard and moustache competitions, best butter tart competition, and samples of maple products.

Local artisans will be there selling their latest creations at the Maple Market.

Next weekend, the Homestead welcomes Carrie Ann Peters, a language and culture coordinator from the Caldwell First Nation.

Admission ranges from $6 to $8 for individuals and $30 for a family pass. If you want to skip the lineup, go to essexregionconservation.ca/maple.
