Windsor police investigating fatal collision involving pedestrian

A 27-year-old woman was killed when she was allegedly struck by a vehicle.

On Saturday, March 8 just before 7 p.m. police were called to the area of Tecumseh Road East and Pillette Road for a report of a collision.

When police arrived they discovered that a rental moving truck drove onto the sidewalk, struck a pedestrian and crashed into a commercial building.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area was closed for several hours while the Windsor Police Collision Reconstructive and Forensic Identification Units investigated.

Police said when they searched the rental truck they located and seized a loaded firearm.

A 28-year-old woman was charged with possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, possession of a firearm with no licence, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, occupying a motor vehicle with a prohibited device, possession of a prohibited device and careless storage of a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
