Windsor K9 officer helps capture arson suspect

A 35-year-old man is facing charges after a number of fires caused significant damage to city property.

Windsor police said that K9 officer Timber helped to track down the suspect following suspicious fires at a municipal park in South Walkerville.

According to police, officers were called to an arson in progress just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday. When police arrived, they learned that six separate fires had been deliberately set to hydro poles and brush throughout the Ypres Avenue park.

The suspect wasn't immediately found, but a search, including K9 officers, located him on Walker Road. He was arrested without incident and has been charged with arson causing damage to property, possession of an incendiary device, and breach of probation.

No injuries were reported, but heavy damage was done to Windsor city property.
