The Windsor Essex County Health Unit said 618 secondary school students across the region are suspended from school because their immunization records are incomplete.
The health unit sent their families notices last fall warning they could be excluded from class if their records weren't updated. The deadline for high school students to get that finished was last Friday.
Suspended students must provide the health unit with either proof they got their immunizations or a valid exemption. Once a student's records are up-to-date, they'll be uploaded to the provincial database.
Elementary school students had until March 3 to update their records or face suspension, and as of Monday, 129 students were still out of class.
Legally, students can be excluded for up to 20 days.
The health unit has services available for students who need vaccinations from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at its offices in Windsor and Leamington.
Updated immunization records can be uploaded online through the health unit's webpage.
Families with suspended children should contact their primary healthcare provider to access missing immunization information.
