Do you know a nurse that has gone above and beyond?

Nominations are open for this year's Lois Fairley Award for a nurse who has made a big impact on the life of a patient, in their workplace, or the community.

The award is named after Lois Fairley, who was a local nurse worked at Grace Hospital before it closed. She passed away in 2007 and the award was introduced the following year.

Each year, the Windsor-Essex chapter of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario picks the "Nurse of the Year" from the pile of nominations, and this is the 18th year the award will be given out.

"If you, or a loved one, have ever needed nursing care in a hospital, at home, or through our public health nurses, you know the difference an outstanding nurse makes with patients and their families," read a release.

Those who wish to nominate a nurse can write a story with 500 words or less and submit it online.

Nominations must be submitted by April 25, and the award presentation will be during Nurses Week in May.
