ERCA issues flood warning for Ruscom River

The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has reported elevated water levels in portions of Lakeshore thanks to this week's rainstorms.

A flood warning has been issued for the Ruscom River in Lakeshore after as much as 60 millimetres of rain fell on the area Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

"Ruscom River water levels are currently elevated and have breached the riverbanks and low-lying floodplain, with water currently over Lakeshore Road 241, north of County Road 46. A portion of the road is closed to traffic, please avoid the area," said ERCA Watershed Management Services Director James Bryant.

The Ruscom River is in a low-lying area, and water runoff is expected to be heavy in the watershed that drains into the northernmost part of Leamington.

ERCA defines a flood warning as a situation where "flooding is imminent or already occurring in specific watercourses or municipalities."

The flood warning is in effect through at least noon on Friday.
