LaSalle Town Councillor Sue Desjarlais dies

The Town of LaSalle is mourning the passing of one of its councillors.

Councillor Sue Desjarlais has passed away, according to a release from the Town. Details were not disclosed.

"It is with profound sadness that the Town of LaSalle announces the passing of Councillor Sue Desjarlais," read the release. "Councillor Desjarlais was a dedicated and compassionate public servant who served our community with unwavering integrity, generosity, and care. Her passing is a tremendous loss not only to council, but to the entire LaSalle community."

Desjarlais was first elected to LaSalle Town Council in 2006.

"She was deeply committed to listening to residents, advocating for their needs, and working collaboratively to create a stronger, more inclusive LaSalle," read the release. "Her priorities were rooted in community, supporting those in need, fostering meaningful connections, and ensuring LaSalle remained a vibrant place to live and grow."

Desjarlais was also active with many community groups. She was a board member of the John R. Park Homestead, a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, and a long-time supporter of Community Living Essex County, where she had served as board president at one time.

She was also active with ERCA and the LaSalle Food Bank.

The Town has ordered all flags at municipal buildings in LaSalle lowered to half-staff. Memorial arrangements are pending.
