A new project at Hiatus House in Windsor will get more than $2.4-million over the next three years from the Ontario government.
The project, A Hub Without Walls: Ending Gender-based Violence in Windsor-Essex, integrates early prevention and intervention, education and awareness with long-term support.
The supports are mobile. They include help navigating services, addiction services, trauma support, and risk identification.
"This investment in Hiatus House is a powerful step forward for preventing gender-based violence," said Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie. "Supporting projects like A Hub Without Walls helps us provide critical resources for survivors and support the healthy building of relationships through education and awareness."
Minister of Children, Community and Social Services Micahel Parsa said initiatives like the one at Hiatus House get to the root of gender-based violence.
"These projects tackle the root causes and are critical to breaking the cycle of abuse," said Parsa.
The investment is part of the province's plan to improve safety in Ontario communities. The Ford government is investing about $98-million into 83 new initiatives across Ontario that focus on stopping gender-based violence before it starts, helping survivors recover and supporting victims in rebuilding their lives.
