Lakeshore urges residents to "respect and protect our parks"

When seasonal park amenities open in parks across Lakeshore, the municipality hopes people will have some respect.

Washrooms, ball courts, and sports fields are open to the public on Thursday.

"As we welcome the warmer weather and reopen our outdoor amenities, we ask everyone to do their part in keeping our parks clean, safe, and enjoyable for all," said Mayor Tracey Bailey. "Please dispose of waste properly in designated bins, follow all park rules, and treat our shared spaces with care."

Lakeshore also plans to launch a community campaign called "Respect and Protect Parks." It'll include signage at parks and posts on social media encouraging users to consider how their actions can keep parks and public spaces clean.

Three years ago, vandals caused widespread damage in several Lakeshore parks. The mess prompted councillors to install cameras in Lakeview Park, Stoney Point Park, and Centennial Park.

The Belle River Marina reopened last Saturday. The fuel pump and docks are staffed daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
