Are you a local filmmaker looking for a big break? The Windsor International Film Festival might be your launching pad.
It's introducing a new prize for local film and filmmakers this year, which will go to the best local short film.
An independent jury will choose the winner, and the prize is $3,000.
Submissions for this year's film festival are also open.
This year, it's looking for films in three categories: WIFF Local features and shorts, Canadian features, and international features.
"Coming off our anniversary year, we look forward to celebrating film and filmmakers in new ways, including our new prize for local shorts," said Executive Director and Chief Programmer Vincent Georgie. "Along with a great selection of local programming, we look forward to bringing the best of Canadian and international film to Windsor this fall."
The festival, which runs from October 23 to November 2, will showcase films from more than 40 countries, including pre-release titles, new projects from beloved filmmakers, and emerging talent.
Last year's festival screened 213 films, including 17 pre-release showings.
Submissions for the WIFF Local prize must be in by July 21. Winners will be informed by September 5, and all other applicants by September 15.
