Windsor police have arrested a 26-year-old woman after a video showing a dog in distress went viral.
Officers began an investigation on Monday night after multiple complaints were received about a video making the rounds online.
According to police, the video shows a woman crouching and using what appeared to be a taser near a small dog that was in a cage. The visibly upset animal began barking and yelping while someone else was laughing in the background.
At around 10 p.m. on Monday, police arrested a woman at a home on Bruce Avenue near Pine Street. The dog was rescued and turned over to the Windsor Essex County Humane Society.
The woman is charged with animal cruelty and possession of a dangerous weapon.
The charges have not been proven in court.
