City increasing time available at parking meters

The City of Windsor is offering new incentives to encourage people to use the parking app at meters instead of cash.

When using the app, you'll soon be able to pay for four hours of parking instead of just two.

"We're going to direct more people over to the digital side, not by forcing them to do it but by giving them the carrots to do it," said Councillor Renaldo Agostino. "This is one of those big carrots, it's the number one thing people have asked me for."

The change comes after Agostino asked city administration for options to modernize the parking operations in the city.

Administration recommended moving to a fully cashless system throughout the city. However, many residents expressed concerns over the move and the dependency on smart technology.

In 2024, only 51 per cent of meter users paid through the app.

A date for the change to become effective has not been announced.
