Update: Man arrested in counterfeiting investigation

Windsor police have arrested a 27-year-old man for suspected retail fraud.

Investigators allege that Jacob David Jubinville entered a big-box store on Tecumseh Road East near Lauzon Parkway on Sunday, May 11, and used counterfeit $100 bills to pay for items. He then allegedly went to another big-box store on Sandwich Street South in Amherstburg and did it again.

A store employee realized the bills were phony and attempted to confront the suspect, who took off in a black Mercedes.

Officers from the Amherstburg detachment spotted the vehicle a short distance away. When Jubenville saw the officers, he reportedly sped through a red light. The pursuit was stopped by police for public safety reasons.

A warrant was issued for Jubinville, who was officially arrested on Saturday.

He's been charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000, two counts of possession of counterfeit money, two counts of uttering counterfeit money, obtaining by false pretenses under $5,000, possession of stolen property, fleeing police, dangerous driving, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.
