Counterfeit suspect linked to two more incidents

A 27-year-old man already facing a multitude of charges is now facing more counts.

Windsor police issued a warrant for the man, who was arrested on Saturday. He is suspected of using counterfeit $100 bills to pay for items at two big-box stores in Windsor and Amherstburg on Mother's Day, then fleeing officers who tried to stop him.

After his arrest, the Financial Crimes Unit linked the man to two additional incidents.

On Tuesday, May 13, police allege that he sold a stolen vehicle to an unsuspecting buyer, then parked it three days later behind a business on Walker Road, near Seneca Street.

In the second incident, on Tuesday, May 20, the man allegedly used counterfeit money to purchase a scooter that was being sold online. When the buyer became suspicious of the money, the suspect took off with the scooter.

The suspect now faces a total of 21 charges.

They include four counts apiece of possession of stolen property and failure to comply with a release order, three counts each of possessing and uttering counterfeit money, and two counts of fraud under $5,000.

He's also charged with dangerous driving, failure to stop for police, possession of stolen property with intent to traffic, obtaining by false pretenses under $5,000, and theft under $5,000.

The charges have not been proven in court.
