Stellantis has a new Chief Operating Officer, 25-year veteran Antonio Filosa.
The company's board of directors appointed Filosa after what it calls a thorough search process of internal and external candidates.
In the coming days, Stellantis will hold an extraordinary shareholder meeting, where Filosa will be elected to the board to serve as executive director.
He was granted CEO powers effective June 23. John Elkann will continue as executive chairman until that date when Filosa will announce Stellantis's new leadership team.
"Antonio Filosa has led Stellantis in both North and South America," said a release. "During his time as Chief Operating Officer of South America, he took the FIAT brand to the market leading position and then significantly grew the Peugeot, Citroen, Ram, and Jeep brands. As a result, Stellantis increased its clear leadership in the region."
Filosa also worked on creating a plant in Brazil that became one of South America's largest automotive hubs.
Filosa was promoted to Chief Operating Officer of the Americas last December.
"His track record of successful leadership during his many years with the company speaks for itself, and this, together with his deep knowledge of our business and the complex dynamics facing our industry, make him the natural choice," said Stellantis Vice Chairman Robert Peugeot.
