Grand Prix weekend kicks off Friday

You may hear the rumble of engines as the 35th Detroit Grand Prix gets underway.

The track, set up on the streets of downtown Detroit, is a 1.7 mile circuit with nine turns.

There will be three series throughout the weekend. The Chevrolet Sports Car Classic takes place Saturday, while the INDY NXT by Firestone race is Sunday, before the feature event, the Chevrolet INDYCAR Grand Prix.

In addition to the races, classic cars and hot rods will parade on the track Friday night in the first ever Grand Prix Cruise Night.

A full schedule of events and ticket information can be found online here.

The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel will stay open throughout the weekend, but all traffic will be rerouted to allow motorists to enter and exit the tunnel safely.

Last year's event attracted around 150,000 people over three days.
