Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a 42-year-old man after recovering a stolen $200,000 piece of construction equipment.
The Essex County Marine Unit was on routine patrol in the LaSalle Channel of the Detroit River on June 3, when officers saw a barge with a 50-foot backhoe on board.
Officers conducted a vessel inspection and learned that the backhoe had been stolen from the Greater Toronto Area.
A LaSalle man was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.
The charge has not been proven in court.
The suspect was released and will have a chance to respond in a Windsor court on July 15.
