The Windsor-Essex Bike Community in Amherstburg is the recipient of a June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Volunteerism.
The Ontario government is recognizing four community groups and 15 individuals. The Windsor-Essex Bike Community is the only local group to receive an award this year.
"Established in 2022, the Windsor Essex Bike Community has transformed Windsor-Essex County through volunteerism and grassroots leadership," said the group's biography. "With over 5,000 volunteer hours and $150,000 raised, it built an eight km mountain bike trail and launched a youth program."
The award is named after late author, social activist, and journalist June Callwood.
Ceremonies will be held across the province for the award recipients. The group will receive an award statue and a certificate signed by Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism Graham McGregor.
