Humane society fundraiser exceeds goal

The annual Strays on Streetcorners fundraising campaign raised over $78,000 for the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society.

"We are humbled and thrilled to announce that our community once again showed up in a big way for the animals,” said Lynnette Bain, Executive Director of the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society. “Thanks to the compassion and generosity of Windsor-Essex residents, we exceeded our goal and raised $78,003 during this year’s Strays on Streetcorners campaign. Our heartfelt thanks go to every donor and to our tireless volunteers who braved the heat and rain to make this possible. These funds will help us continue providing care and hope to the most vulnerable animals in our region.”

Between June 19 and 21, volunteers stood at busy intersections throughout the community to collect funds for the organization.

“I've been doing it for a few years now—I even did it when I was 9 months pregnant with my third child!” said volunteer Ashlee Cousineau. “I like to do it because I want to help the animals. Specifically, cats because I'm a cat lover, and I know how large colonies can grow without proper care. It just makes me feel good to see the community step up and actually help a needed cause.”

All of the funds raised will go toward food, shelter, medical care, and adoption services at the humane society.
