Program launched to support children who witness crime

New Beginnings is taking on a new Child Witness Victim Program to support children and their families who have been victims of crime in the community.

The program is supported through a $600,000 grant from the provincial government.

“We’re making sure that children in Essex County who’ve been through the worst don’t have to face the justice system alone,” said Anthony Leardi, MPP for Essex. “This investment means real, compassionate support for young victims when they need it most.”

New Beginnings Executive Director Stacey Yannacopoulos said the program will help them navigate the court system and all other supports available to the children and their families.

"We want these children and these families to come out feeling heard, to come out feeling powerful, to come out feeling supported, and that they can move forward and that this isn't going to have those long-lasting impacts and effects," said Yannacopoulos.

The funding will support two staff members at New Beginnings for three years.
