Windsor police have reported making headway in crimes against people.
The June crime statistics for Windsor and Amherstburg were released via social media on Friday morning. They showed that personal crimes in both municipalities combined declined by 20.4 per cent in June, compared to June 2024.
So far in 2025, personal crime was down by 1.5 per cent, compared to the first half of 2024.
There were 250 reports of personal crime taken during June. These include murder, sexual assault, abduction, assault, robbery, and harassment. This year so far, the total number of reports is 1,506.
Crimes against property trended up in June after successive months of decline. There were 1,023 complaints concerning property crime, a year-to-year increase of 4.1 per cent.
Overall, crimes against property are down so far this year, with 5,032 reports between January and June, a 12.9 per cent decrease. Offences falling into this category include arson, break-and-enter, fraud, mischief, and theft.
Criminal Code violations include child pornography, non-violent weapons offences, betting and gaming offences, and administration of justice violations. The June crime report stated that those were up, by 18.4 per cent in June compared to June 2024, and by 2.7 per cent year-to-date.
Looking at crime by ward in Windsor only, Ward 1 had the lowest rates of both personal and property crime. Ward 3, which includes downtown, had the highest number of reports in both classifications.
