Thousands without power in Saturday storm

More than 7,000 customers were without power after a fast-moving, intense storm in Windsor Saturday afternoon.

ENWIN said the outage was primarily caused by high winds and fallen branches, which damaged power lines and created localized outages across the city.

The utility company also said a full system-level restoration was completed.

The system infrastructure remained largely intact, allowing for efficient restoration once crews could access and address affected areas.

"While the storm was brief, it caused significant damage to local distribution lines due to fallen trees and branches," said Petr Jurgeneit, Director of Hydro Distribution. "Our System Control and Hydro Operations teams responded immediately, reducing the number of affected customers to fewer than 1,000 within a few hours."

By 5 a.m. Sunday morning, all system-level repairs were completed, and full restoration was achieved.

ENWIN also said additional customer service representatives to assist with increased customer reporting calls during the storm and outage.

Crews will remain remain active Sunday, responding to individual service calls and performing cleanup work to ensure safety.
