The nomination period for those interested in representing Windsor's Ward 2 on city council opens on Monday.
Last week, Windsor city councillors voted to hold a byelection to fill the vacancy after Fabio Costante announced his resignation last month.
At the time, Councillor Fred Francis said the position comes with a big responsibility.
"The person that is going to be elected is going to be one of the people charged with making billion-dollar decisions," he said.
The nomination period ends at 2 p.m. on September 12.
A byelection in Ward 2 could cost taxpayers up to $200,000, "a small price to pay to ensure that the people of Ward 2 have that accountability in the resident they choose," said Francis.
The byelection is on October 27. Advanced voting is on Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18 at Campbell Baptist Church.
