Once again, the City of Windsor is making arrangements for those who rely on social assistance to pick up their cheques for August.
The ongoing strike action at Canada Post has prompted the city to make arrangements over the past months to ensure Ontario Works clients get their income support cheques and reloadable payment cards.
Those who receive assistance through direct deposit aren't impacted by the strike action.
Those who do get their cheques in the mail, direct bank deposit statements with a bus pass, or are issued a reloadable payment card can pick them up between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 31 and Friday, August 1, at 400 City Hall Square, Suite 102.
Those who live in the county can pick them up at the Leamington office at 33 Princess Street between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the same days.
Two pieces of government-issued identification, one with a photo, are required to pick up cheques or reloadable payment cards. Payments will only be given to the person named on the cheque. Before going to the cheque distribution location, call 1-800-808-2268 to ensure the cheque has been printed.
Daily cheques can still be picked up by clients, and vendor cheques for business owners and landlords who support Ontario Works clients will be mailed.
