Work in downtown Wheatley to find a potential water well that may have leaked gas a month ago will start next week.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said contractors are expected to arrive at the Wheatley Library site on Monday to start work on Tuesday.
"Contractors and internal staff have been working on the operational plan, health and safety plan, as well as an emergency response plan," the municipality said.
Temporary road closures may be required to move in equipment, said the municipality, adding that any longer-term closures will be communicated as needed.
Once more information is known about the well, plans for remediation can begin, the municipality noted.
A virtual community update meeting will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. to answer any questions about the plans.

Administration said it's planning to hold a similar in-person meeting later next week at the Wheatley Resource Centre to provide updates, adding that further details on that meeting will be provided later.
Another potential water well at the corner of Erie Street South and Chestnut Street will also be investigated, according to municipal officials.
Timing for any potential work at that site will be communicated later, they noted.
