Family Services Windsor-Essex receives $34K provincial grant

A Windsor-Essex initiative aimed at supporting residents facing financial hardship has gained significant new backing from Queens Park.

Family Services Windsor-Essex (FSWE) has announced that it was awarded a $34,500 Seed Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie announced the grant at a media event on Thursday.

"This investment from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will empower Family Services Windsor-Essex to deliver more efficient and meaningful support to individuals facing financial hardship," said Dowie. "By strengthening the Trusteeship Program, we are not just offering assistance, but building a foundation of stability and resilience for individuals and families across our community."

The money is being used to streamline support for the 450 people who use FSWE's Trusteeship Program annually. It allowed FSWE to migrate operations to QuickBooks Online and to improve internal financial procedures, improving efficiency for clients.

"This investment from the Ontario Trillium Foundation has enabled us to modernize our systems and enhance how we serve the community," said FSWE Acting Executive Director Ciara Holmes. "We are now better equipped to help people build stability and resilience in their lives."

FSWE is a non-profit that supports mental health and financial stability through trauma-informed and equity-based services. The Trusteeship Program is part of the agency's financial support operation, which works with 4,000 clients annually across the region.

Complete information about the FSWE's services can be found on its official website.
