The trend concerning personal crime continues to go in the right direction for residents of Windsor and Amherstburg.
Windsor police have released their crime statistics for July, showing that personal crimes in both communities combined dropped by 6.8 per cent, compared to July 2024.
This continues a trend begun in June, when personal crime reports declined by 20.4 per cent compared to June 2024. Personal crime categorizes murder, sexual assault, abduction, assault, robbery, and harassment.
There were 287 reports of personal crime taken during July.
Year-to-date, those reports are down 2.4 per cent, with 1,794 complaints taken.
Crimes against property went up in July by double digits. During the month, officers in Windsor and Amherstburg took 1,123 reports of property crime, a year-to-year increase of 12.9 per cent.
The good news was that property crime is down 8.8 per cent for 2025 to date, compared to between January and July 2024. There were 6,171 reports taken thus far.
Property crimes include arson, break-and-enter, fraud, mischief, and theft.
Criminal Code violations include child pornography, non-violent weapons offences, betting and gaming offences, and administration of justice violations. The June crime report stated that those were down 7.5 per cent in July compared to July 2024. However, these reports were up by four per cent year-to-date.
Looking at crime by ward in Windsor only, Ward 1 and Ward 7 were in a virtual tie for having the lowest personal crime rates in the city. Ward 3, which includes downtown, continues to have the highest number of reports in both categories.
