The local poverty reduction strategy has begun a new program to strengthen certain Windsor neighbourhoods.
Pathway to Potential (P2P) has launched the Neighbourhoods Program, designed to support areas facing quality-of-life and economic challenges.
The core of the new initiative is the Connected Community Approach (CCA), which is led by residents.
Through this approach, residents are placed at the forefront of change-making, supported by community backbone organizations known as neighbourhood leads, which are responsible for implementing the program in their designated areas.
The leads have been identified in three specific areas, West Windsor, downtown west of Ouellette Avenue, and downtown east of Ouellette.
The United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex Chatham-Kent will serve as leads for West Windsor and east Ouellette, while the Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative (DWCC) will serve as lead for west Ouellette.
The launch is expected to take place in the weeks ahead.
The Neighbourhoods Program will also affect north Amherstburg and north Leamington before 2028.
