Novice driver in Windsor charged with impaired driving

A 23-year-old man is in trouble with the law after a crash Saturday night in Windsor.

Just before 8 p.m., officers responded after a black Dodge Charger struck a utility pole at the intersection of Howard Avenue and Eugenie Street.

Those inside the vehicle, five people, fled on foot.

Officers found them a short distance from the crash, but while they spoke with the man driving, they smelled alcohol. The man also showed other signs of inebriation.

The suspect was arrested and taken back to Windsor Police Headquarters for a breath test, which he failed.

Nobody was hurt, but damage to the utility pole was severe.

The 23-year-old faces impaired driving charges, one count of failing to remain at the scene of a collision, failing to surrender his driver's license as a novice driver, failing to surrender an insurance card, and being a Class G2 driver with a blood alcohol concentration over zero.
