UPDATE: Tips sought from public on morning fire in Windsor core

Authorities are turning to residents for help as they continue to look into the cause of a fire that broke out on Thursday morning downtown.

Windsor firefighters first got the call at around 8:30 a.m., with crews headed to Chatham Street East and Ouellette Avenue.

At one point, as many as 11 fire vehicles were at the scene. Crews tackled the fire in two sectors and turned off natural gas in the area as a safety precaution.

Windsor fire investigators had requested help from Windsor police to determine how the fire got started. Firefighters left the scene at around 4 p.m. Thursday.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. EnWin crews were in the area working to restore hydro service to the area.

Damage has been estimated at $250,000.
