The Labour Day long weekend, or unofficial end to summer, can be one of the busiest long weekends on area roads and highways.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding motorists that traffic safety is everyone's responsibility.
Over the long weekend OPP officers will be focused on the 'big four', speeding, impaired driving, distracting driving and improper seat belt use.
"The motoring public can expect to see an increased OPP presence across the province, as officers target motorists who engage in these and any other driving behaviours and actions that jeopardize the safety of fellow road users on one of the busiest travel weekends of the year," read an OPP news release.
Police said year after year, these continue to be the leading causes or contributing factors in fatal crashes.
As of mid August, 214 people have died on OPP patrolled roads this year.
Area boaters and paddlers can also expect to see an increased police presence on area waterways, ensuring boaters are in compliance with vessel regulations.
You're also reminded to wear a lifejacket when out on the water.
As of late July, there were nearly 60 drowning deaths this year in Ontario.
