Highline Produce fined after worker suffers critical injuries

Highline Produce in Kingsville will have to pay a $115,000 fine after a worker was critically injured at the plant over two years ago.

The worker was rolling and sanitizing nets on the Net Washer when the nets became misaligned. The worker was trying to realign the nets when their hands got caught on a rotating bar.

The Ministry of Labour investigated and discovered there were no measures, procedures, guards, or other devices in place to prevent workers from becoming entangled.

The company was convicted in August in the Provincial Offences Court in Windsor.

The court also imposed a 25 per cent victim surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act. The surcharge is credited to a fund to help victims of crime.
